Logistics Management in India

Logistics is the management and controlling of the flow of goods between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet some requirements, of customers or corporations. It is simply the art of managing the flow of goods, products, services, information, and people from one place to another. It involves the various processes of planning, controlling, managing, directing, coordinating, forecasting, warehousing, and transportation.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management in India is a rapid growing industry and is expected to grow with leaps and bounds in the years ahead. The main reason that has led to the growth of this industry is the country’s economic growth. Increased economy and industrial growth has increased trading within the country as well as with other countries across the globe. This sharp increase in trade has consequently driven the logistic services in the country. This filed has also influenced the transport industry and freight forwarding companies in India.

There is however, a need for the improvement in the logistics industry with more technologically advanced infrastructure like roads, communication and ports. With improvements in infrastructure and optimal utilization of technology, the future of logistic industry in India will be brighter than ever. More and more, both public and private sectors are marching ahead to introduce more number of logistic hubs, parks, and warehouses. The Indian Railways is a huge contributor to logistics and transport as it saves a lot on time and cost.
